

Thomas F. Mitchell, Sr. was born on June 21, 1945 in Providence, RI and passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021. He was loved by his family and friends and he had memories of a well lived life. He was the son of the late Charles P. Mitchell, Sr., and the late Edna M. (Burns) Mitchell.
He was the husband of Janet M. (Henault) Mitchell for 53 years and the devoted father of Thomas F. Mitchell, Jr., and Valorie A. Spellman and her husband Steve. Tom is survived by five grandchildren: Samantha, Zoe, and Patrick Mitchell and Steven and Ashley Spellman. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Lainey and Maisie Spellman, Chloe and Cassandra Cruz and Oliver Audet. He was the brother of Mary A. Nicholas and the late Patricia R. Corrigan, Charles P. Mitchell, Jr., and John F. Mitchell, Sr. He was also the caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tom graduated from St. Raphael Academy in 1964 and the University of Rhode Island in 1971. He was a salesman in the communication industry for Tetra Pak and Motorola Solutions Direct and, in later years, for several of their dealers.
Throughout his life he loved to travel and had been to all fifty states, all the Canadian Provinces, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. He loved to hike and hiked nearly all of the National Parks in both the United States and Canada. His adventures also lead him to deep sea fishing with his son and friends off the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia.
He was a dedicated father who was actively involved in coaching for his children's Warwick Soccer Leagues and Warwick Softball League. Tom also enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on day trips to Canobie Lake Park and treated his family to an exciting trip to Walt Disney World.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third Street, East Greenwich on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 10:00 am. A face covering or mask will be required. The burial and repast will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Tom's name to the American Heart Association.
God gave me the strength to bare it and courage to fight the blow, What it has meant to lose you, God alone will never know.
You will be sadly missed by your loving family and friends.
