Salvatore R. DiChiara, 86, formerly of North Providence, Rhode Island before his final years in Solivita, Poinciana Florida, passed away on November 18, 2021 at Merrill Gardens Assisted Living in Champions Gate Florida, where he resided this past year after a long illness.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Aveta) DiChiara, the husband of the late Claire L. (Kelley) DiChiara, and also predeceased by his beautiful grandson Daniel DiChiara, dear sister Jennie Court and brother Vincent DiChiara. Sal is survived by six children and their families, Diane Dumas and John Neader, David DiChiara and his wife Marisa, Steven DiChiara and his wife Tammy, Linda and her husband Christopher Smith, Richard DiChiara, Michele and her husband Steven Santangini, one brother Victor DiChiara & sister in-law Beverly, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families.
An upholsterer and custom furniture maker by trade for many years with State Upholstery & Ro-Art Upholstery & Interiors of Cranston, he concluded his career with the State of Rhode Island as Supervisor for the state's supply and services office until retirement. He also served part time in the Army National Guard from 1954-1963, a Knight of Columbus in Providence and an Elk Member in his final years in Florida.
Sal’s passion for life was exceeded only by his love for his family and friends. He was full of joy, laughter, and mischief with a true love for opera and music of many genres, especially Pavarotti and Sinatra “My Way”.
In addition to his faith, he enjoyed travel, golf, socializing with friends, cooking, entertaining, story telling and reading. He was always the light of the room and the life of the party, leaving all who met him with a story of wisdom, a laugh, a song and a smile... everyone was family. He traveled the world in his retired years with dear friends of Solivita and enjoyed each day to the fullest. He was loved & dear to so many, especially his entire family who he was most proud of…he will be sadly missed.
We are especially grateful to Merrill Gardens of Champions Gate Staff in Davenport, Florida who he referred to as his “Angels”, Cornerstone Hospice of Kissimmee, FL all exceeding his care with love in his final days. Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory Kissimmee, FL - a celebration of life will be held at a later date for all friends of Florida.
A devoted Catholic, a Mass of Christian Burial with be celebrated 11am on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, RI 02908 where his family legacy began and to which relatives and friends are invited, following a burial at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Daniel R.
