

Cranston: Adoian, Ruth S., R.N., 87, was valiant in her last weeks, being gentle, caring and loving to all that called or came to visit with her. Nee Ruth Sarkisian, daughter of the late Sarkis and Marie Sarkisian, died July 26, 2010. Beloved Wife of the late Georgie Adoian. Beloved mother of the late George Adoian, Cynthia Adoian, and Judy Pelkey and her husband, David Pelkey. Beloved "Mama" of Laura Pelkey and David Pelkey. Beloved sister of Grace Bagdasarian. Beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, as we were proud of her. Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Saint Joseph's Nursing School. She was a devoted nurse with St. Joseph Hospital for over 40 years. She, along with her fellow nurses went on strike during a bitter cold February to bring the Nurses Union to the State of RI. Ruth and George traveled throughout Armenia, Canada, China, Europe, Panama, Russia, and the United States. She especially loved Paris and the countryside of China. She loved the arts, especially live Theatre. Ruth was an avid gardener, whose beautiful gardens were appreciated by all. She was independent, intelligent, and outspoken in her views. Ruth was an active member of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, where she served on the Ladies Guild and the Senior Ladies Auxiliary. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 29 at 9:45, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Services at 11 am in Saint Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence. Burial will be at North Burial Ground. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 4-8 pm. Donations to be made to the charity of your choice.
