East ProvidenceRobert P. Thayer, 66, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen H. (Vogel) Thayer. Born in Providence, a son of the late Paul L. Thayer, D.D.S. and Genevieve (Lynskey) Thayer, he lived in East Providence most of his life. Mr. Thayer was a Guidance Counselor at the East Providence High School for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1982. He was a graduate of Providence Country Day School, a graduate of Brown University, Class of 1963, with a Bachelors Degree in Education, and a graduate of Rhode Island College with a Master's Degree in Education. He was a Brown University sports enthusiast, a friend of Bill W., and a former member of the East Providence Council Knights of Columbus, Third Degree. He was a communicant of Saint Patrick Church, Providence, for many years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Beside his wife, he leaves a brother, Daniel T. Thayer, M.D., of Bend, Oregon and was a brother of the late Richard T. Thayer. The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours today, Thursday, 4 - 7 pm.
