JohnstonRobert Galligan, 64, of Sheridan Street, died suddenly Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Manzi) Galligan for the past thirty years. Born in Providence, a son of the late William S. and Isabel V. (Bogdan) Galligan, Sr., he was a resident of Smith Hill for many years before moving to Johnston. Robert was a rigger for Local # 23, the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees for many years. He served his country proudly in the Rhode Island National Guard. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed his family, especially raising his three sons. Robert also was an accomplished martial arts enthusiast, having earned a Blackbelt in Taekwondo. He also held the Middleweight Championship Title in kickboxing for two years. In addition to his wife Barbara, he leaves two boys, Matthew A. Galligan, (RIDOC) David A. Galligan, (Johnston PD); four brothers, William S. Galligan, Walter Galligan, Thomas Galligan and Michael Galligan; and three sisters, Maureen Galligan, Kathleen Daponte and Eileen Soltys. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph R. Galligan and brothers, James and Kenneth Galligan. The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
