Richard A. Skog, Sr., 74, of Putnam, Connecticut, and formerly of Coventry, RI, died Monday at Rhode Island Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. He was the beloved husband of Mary J. (Surrette) Skog for the past 52 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of Anne M. (Rivers) Skog and the late Albert E. Skog.
Richard served our nation proudly during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy. He was a 1991 graduate of Johnson & Wales University. He worked as a customer service manager for Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co. for 20 years then went on to work as a Floor Manager for Foxwoods Resort & Casino for 21 years before retiring.
In his spare time, Richard was an avid golfer and world traveler, traversing both the Great Wall of China and the Alaskan wilderness in his later years. He also served as a coach for Coventry Little League for many years, in the Summer and later in the Fall when he was instrumental in bringing Fall Baseball to Coventry.
In addition to his wife Mary, he leaves a daughter, Kristen S. Buerstetta; three sisters: Suzanne M. Easton, Alana C. Gould, and Victoria L. DiPietro; and five grandchildren, Morgan Skog, Riley Skog, Brody Skog, Mason Buerstetta, and Wynton Buerstetta. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family who were all very fond of him. He was the father of the late Richard A. Skog, Jr.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 am, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rte. 117) Warwick. Visiting hours Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
