Richard E. Higgins, 85, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Coventry Center. He was the loving husband of the late Virginia (Setian) Higgins for almost 40 years.
Born August 2, 1933 in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph F Higgins and Lynette (Emidy) Higgins.
Richard was a third generation florist in the Smith Hill section of Providence; the owner of Higgins Florist.
Richard served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Richard is survived by his three children Laurie Higgins of San Diego, CA and Joseph Higgins and Robert Higgins, both of Warwick RI. He was the grandfather of Seth and Miles Doughty, Josie Chauvette, Kayla and Colin Higgins, as well as his 10 great grandchildren. He also leaves the family of his wife Virginia; Steven Suvajian and his wife Jane of North Kingstown and Gregory Suvajian of Johnston and four grandchildren Regina, Steven, Gregory and David.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 am in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial with military honors will follow.
The family is grateful for the unbelievable compassion and care shown by the Coventry Center and Hope Hospice and Palliative Care staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Warwick.
