Raymond A. Alarie, 98, of North Providence, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, in Providence. He was the husband of the late Lillian R. (Taylor) Alarie.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Georgianna E. (Plante) Alarie.Raymond received his Degree in Mechanical Engineering from RI School of Design, and he played violin in the School of Design Orchestra. He then worked as an engineer during World War II at the Naval Torpedo Station in Newport, RI. He was also co-owner of Rawl Engineering for several years, and owner of Alray Manufacturing. Among his many interests, Ray loved ballroom dancing, sailing, painting, woodworking, gardening, and played the mandolin. During his later years, Ray participated daily at the Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center, in North Providence. He leaves his four sons, Ronald R. Alarie, of North Providence, Raymond G. and Dennis G. Alarie, both of Newport, and Gary J. Alarie, of North Providence; two sisters, Bernice B. LaMontagne, of Lincoln and Lillian F. Dodd, of Greenville; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the father of the late Kathleen Alarie and brother of the late Rita E. Huot and Doris A. Alarie.His funeral will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 8:30 am, at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in Saint Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Graveside Interment will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
