

Michael was born to Walter and Helen (McLaughlin) Costello of Cumberland, RI, on October 19, 1942. He attended Boston College High School and graduated from Boston College.
Michael traveled to the Middle East and taught English at Baghdad College. After enlisting in the army, he became a volunteer teacher where he learned and applied his knowledge of Arabic. While abroad, he made many life-long friendships.
When he returned to the U.S., he began his long career at Rhode Island Hospital in biochemistry.
Michael met his wife and love of his life, Mary Ann Costello, in 1982 and married in 1983. He was the supportive loving father to Aimee Maseda, wife to Phillip, Elizabeth Fontanez, wife of Juan and Katherine Costello, fiance to Brad Manuppelli. His grandsons, Michael, Christopher and Teddy will fondly remember their time with their Papa swimming on Surf Drive. Younger grandchildren, Hanley, Calvin and Lydia will remember reading and playing hotwheels and puzzles on the floor with him. Lydia adored her "Poppy". He could always make youngest granddaughter, Quinlan, smile.
Michael was the oldest of 10 and an example to his sisters and brothers. He is survived by Mary Pasciucco, and husband John, Elizabeth Burke, and husband Walter, Nancy Shields and husband William, Barbara Earp and husband Ralph, John Costello and wife Janeen, Martha McGahan and husband Michael, Joseph Costello and wife Marcia and Debora Combes and husband Steve and his beautiful sister and goddaughter, Patricia Allietta, who is recently deceased and husband Steve.
Michael was so fond and enjoyed all of his many nieces and nephews and their children.
To know Michael, is to have met the most humble, intelligent, kind, generous, selfless, heroic gentleman with unparalleled devotion to his family and friends.
Funeral will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 9:45 am in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 629 Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence. Burial will follow at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Pawtucket.
Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's name should be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/donate
