Mary Eileen (Burke) Madden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 26, 2012 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Madden. They had been married 68 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Elizabeth (Grady) Burke.
Mother of Thomas Madden and wife Mary of Plymouth, MA, Deborah O’Connor and husband J. Michael of Dover, NH, Patricia Coughlin of Providence and Kathleen Walaska and husband Mark of Queensbury, NY. She also leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a younger brother, Joseph, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Madden was a life-long resident of Providence and was educated in the Providence Public Schools. Before raising her family, she worked at Brown & Sharp and in later years was a medical transcriptionist at Roger Williams Medical Center. Mrs. Madden was well known for her gracious hospitality and possessed outstanding and unmatched culinary skills. She devoted herself to caring for her family and was its center. Her fun-filled and loving presence will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Visitation and funeral will be held Friday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence.
