Mary D. Garvey

She was the wife of the late Francis E. Garvey, Jr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Peter J. and Annie M. (Barlow) Dolan.

Mary was the loving mother of Anne B. Garvey Sabalewski and her late husband John; cherished grandmother of Shannon A. Barata, Robert W. Vanner III (Sarai), Kristy Vanner and Sean F. Sabalewski; she also leaves twenty nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John F. Dolan, Esq., Hubert G. Dolan, Margaret A. Gillooly and Marie Renza; and the aunt of the late Kathleen Walsh; and great-aunt of the late William Conroy. Mary was also affectionately known as the “Grandmother of Tyndall Avenue.”

Mary attended and graduated from St. Pius V School, St. Xavier Academy and Bryant College. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Pius V Church. Mary worked until the age of 87 as an administrative assistant at Providence College for 50 years, previously having worked as an underwriter at John Naughton Insurance Co. and Amica Insurance.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with her funeral on Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence, RI 02908.
