Mary Ann was born on August 8, 1946 to William and Jeannette ( Bourdon ) Barry of Riverside and movedto Providence where she attended Blessed Sacrament School and St. Patrick’s High School with her twin sister and best friend Sheila Connors. She graduated from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing and dedicated her nursing career to pediatric patients at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital until her retirement in 2008.
She met the love of her life, Michael Costello in 1982 and married in 1983. As an overwhelmingly loving and supportive mother to Aimee Maseda (wife of Phillip Maseda), Elizabeth Fontanez (wife of Juan Fontanez) and Katherine Costello, she always extended her hand to help anyone in need. She was her daughters’ rock. Her older grandsons, Michael, Christopher and Theodore Maseda will always remember their memories with their beloved Nana.
She’d cheer from the stands at their baseball games, let them assist her with baking, and orchestrating bingo games with her special prizes. Her younger grandchildren, Hanley Perez, Calvin and Lydia Fontanez always enjoyed cuddling up with her and their handmade blankets (made by Nana) for a story and a snack. Mary Ann was an avid Red Sox fan who never missed a game and was always ready to talk about her favorite players. She will be remembered most for her quiet kindness, selflessness and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
