Marie (Starnino) Campion, 77, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Virgilio and Vincenza (Piacente) Starnino. Beloved wife of the late Colonel Lawrence Campion, Jr., (EGPD, Ret.) and devoted mother of Michael A. Legault and his wife Maureen, Daniel R. Legault and his wife Nicole and Michelle M. Legault and her husband Carlo Jacavone Jr. Cherished grandmother of Melissa, Olivia, Quinn and Grace. She also was a devoted step-mother to Chris L. Campion, Michael P. Campion, Amanda R. Campion, and Gabrielle “Ellie” Campion, and grandchildren Zoe, Hope, Rory, Mazie and sister of Teresa A. Kennedy and her husband Norman. She also leaves her cousin Karen Gambuto and her husband Frank and several other cousins.
Marie was a caring wife, mother, nana, sister and friend. She graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial high school in 1963. Marie worked as a server at the Harborside and later at Foxwoods Casino for many years.
She was a member of the East Greenwich Veterans Memorial Fireman’s club, where she would enjoy many nights playing cards and having laughs with friends. Marie loved to help out with club activities such as volunteering her time for the annual Christmas charitable party.
Marie would love to celebrate any and all occasions. Always the first to arrive to help set up, and last to leave to help clean up. Her Halloween costumes were creative and legendary, her lead role in singing the the Little Drummer boy on Christmas Eve will be missed, and we will do our best to re-create her famous chicken wings. Whatever the occasion Marie did all of this to show her love for family and the importance of gathering everyone together.
Marie especially enjoyed traveling. She loved to visit Arizona for its sunshine in winter months, Saratoga New York, Las Vegas, Ongunquit Maine, Block Island in the summer, and reconnecting with family in Italy. Marie’s travel centered around family, creating a lifetime of memories.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third Street, East Greenwich, RI. Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory to HopeHealth Hospice and Palliative Care at hopehealthco.org/ways-to-give/donatenow/ would be appreciated.
