Joyce Lapolla Hynes, age 62, passed away February 22, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Dennis H. Hynes to whom she was happily married for 32 years. In her final days she was surrounded by family and passed with her loving husband by her side.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Saverio and Claire (Dejasse) Lapolla.
Joyce grew up in the Mt. Pleasant section of Providence, attending St. Thomas School, St. Patrick High School, Rhode Island College, and ultimately receiving her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Tufts University.
She dedicated 30 years to her career as a Student Life Counselor at Johnson & Wales University, and had recently focused her efforts, with Dennis, on her love of home, gardening, birding, and caring for their special felines, Calamity, Annabelle, BamBam, and Boo, and countless other foster felines while they awaited loving homes.
She was the loving sister of Alice Madden (Kenneth), Daniel S. Lapolla (Mary Ann), and Michael J. Lapolla (Ann); cherished aunt of Rebecca, Allison, Jeremy, Courtney, Amy, Michelle, Stephen, Lauren, Christina, and M. Jonathan, and adored great-aunt of 15.
Her visitation will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton St, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
