He was the son of the late Alexander and Anna (DiNobile) Vastano; husband of Terri Lea Vastano of North Hollywood, CA; father of John and Christopher Vastano, both of California, Jenifer Silvestri (Raymond) of Cranston, RI; grandfather of John Vastano III of California, Anthony and Angelo Silvestri, both of Cranston, RI, and Katarina Vastano of Serbia; great-grandfather of Iris Vastano of California; brother of Alexander Vastano (Loreen) of Douglas, MA, Eileen Bruscini (Bruce) of Warwick, RI and Michael Vastano of Tiverton, RI. He also leaves nephews, nieces and many wonderful friends.
Johnny was the lead singer/song writer of the Blue Jays and White Water RCA recording artists. He wrote the Olivia Newton John hit “Deeper Than The Night”, as well as songs for Leo Sayer, Melissa Manchester, Cher, Peter Criss of Kiss, Carol Bayer Sager and many other artists. He also wrote motion picture soundtracks for “The Warriors” and “Hugo the Hippo”.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, 1-3 p.m. in the PONTARELLLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence.
