Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Bernardo and Cirena (Pitassi) Romano. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Volpe) Romano, former Providence 4th Ward Councilwoman, with whom he shared their 50th wedding anniversary on May 30th. He was the brother of Bernice Sechio and husband Mike “Mickey”, Dianne Sepielli and husband Russell; uncle of 3 nieces and 2 nephews; great-uncle of 4 nieces and 4 nephews. He was an avid gardener and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and beloved dog “Lucca”.
John was the co-owner and operator, with his wife Carol, of the Atlantic Driver Training Academy. He was the former executive secretary of the Driver Training Board for the State of RI. He was inducted into the Wanskuck Boys’ Club Hall of Fame in 1991. He was a former member of the school board at St. Ann School , was a lifelong communicant and usher at St. Ann Church and a member of the Kirkbrae Country Club since 1973.
Visitation will be held Monday, 4-7 p.m. with a funeral on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence, followed by entombment in the Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum, St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
