He was the beloved husband of Angela R. (Ricci) McCarthy for 55 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Mildred (Schofield) McCarthy. Following high school, James went on to serve in the U.S. Army. During James’ time in the service he received Marksman Badges and a Good Conduct Medal. James’ time with the Army also brought him overseas to Korea for peacekeeping purposes. Following his service, James was a skilled tradesman across a number of disciplines and later was a shipfitter for Electric Boat in Quonset Point for 32 years before retiring.
Along with his wife, Angela, he leaves his beloved children, Colleen McCarthy, Jason McCarthy and his wife Leyla McCarthy, James McCarthy Jr. and his wife Jill Querceto, and Joseph McCarthy and his husband Richard Palizzolo. He was the cherished grandfather of James McInnis, Aidan McCarthy and Kelsey McCarthy.
James was always drawn to the coast and the ocean. He loved spending time on the water with family and friends. James has requested that his ashes be spread on the water by his family, in a private ceremony, where he will become one with the tides, traveling to the places he loved and the places he had yet to explore.
