Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late George and Viola (Cragin) Cavanaugh.
Irene was the loving mother of John J. O’Hern and his wife Wanda Libutti, and Ronald P. O’Hern and his wife Kristine; cherished grandmother of Destiny, Jamie, Justin (Amanda) and John (Heather) O’Hern; great-grandmother of Paul, Abigail, Jason, Justin, Hannah and Jadis. She was the sister of the late William, Joseph, Norman, George, Donald and Doris Cavanaugh, Gertrude Ferry and June Sousa.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. with her funeral service on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
