Helen M. Cain, of Capitol Ridge, Providence, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, at Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. She was the "precious" wife (as he called her) of the late James H. Cain (Ret. PPD).
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Margaret (Dooley) Walsh.
Helen was a "people person"...she loved meeting with friends and family, conversing about past memories, as well as current events. She was always interested in what others were going through, always there to give comfort and a listening ear. In fact, because of her warmth towards others, she was on the welcome committee at Capitol Ridge, greeting new residents and giving them "the scoop" of goings on there. She took part in all the activities offered at Capitol Ridge with humor and enthusiasm! She had a heart for those with memory issues, and volunteered in the memory unit there as well.
Helen loved to shop! Her favorite store? The Dollar Tree. She always bought plenty of "goodies" to put in her candy dish for her many visitors, and the staff at Capitol Ridge. Not one could leave her apartment without a snack or beverage from her endless supply she always kept well-stocked. She was jokingly referred to as the "Duracell Battery", as she could outlast anyone who was with her on her shopping excursions!
Helen loved children! No matter where she was, she would stop to say "hi" and ask them their name, etc. Children brought a beautiful smile to her face, so her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. She'd send them off with goodies, maybe a buck or two, back to school clothes etc...
Helen is survived by her sisters Madeline and Bernadette, as well as her brother Gerald. She was also sister to the late John, James, and Joseph Walsh, and her sister Virginia. She also leaves four sons: James Cain and his wife Mary of New Canaan, Ct., (the late) John Cain of Providence, William Cain of N.Providence, Robert Cain and his wife Belinda of Providence, two daughters: Deb Provencher and her husband Leo of Pawtucket, Margaret “Peggy” Proulx and her husband Michael of Johnston, as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 1, at 8:30 am from the Russell J .Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Health Hospice Center, in Helen's memory, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, R.I. 02905 would be so appreciated.
