Elaine Shirley Robinson Kaufman

KAUFMAN, ELAINE S. (ROBINSON), 93, died April 17, 2015. She was the wife of the late Abraham Kaufman. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Lillian (Lesser) Robinson. Elaine was a proud graduate of Brown University (Pembroke College) and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island. Her working years were spent helping the poor and needy as a social worker. She was an avid reader, was active in book and film clubs, and was honored by the Rhode Island Short Story Club. Elaine also loved to be outdoors and walking. One of her favorite walks is the wall at Narragansett Town Beach. But most of all, Elaine’s greatest love and accomplishment are her family. She is survived by her children, Sharon Kaufman (Keith) of Jamestown, Roberta Kaufman of Riverside, Anne Weber of Pennsylvania, and Steven Kaufman (Monica) of Portsmouth; her sisters Glenna Mazel of Warwick and Cynthia Thomas of Washington, DC; and her grandchildren Eve, Nathan, Michael, Daniel, Emily and Jessica. She was the sister of the late Justin Robinson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21st at 11:00 AM at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St., Providence with burial in Sons of Israel & David Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in her honor may be made to the Providence Community Library (Rochambeau Branch). Shiva will be observed at her late residence on Tues 7-9 PM and Wed-Thurs 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
