Edward A. "Bud" Reilly, 92, of Providence, passed away Tuesday evening, August 15, 2017, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Helen M. (Connell) Reilly for the past 67 years.A lifelong resident of Providence, he was the son of the late Edward and Anne (Connolly) Reilly and was predeceased by his sister Anne C. Jarret.A gifted athlete, he played Triple A baseball for the Duluth Dukes and was drafted to play first base for the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved all sports, and had a special devotion to his Boston Red Sox.Bud worked as a lineman for the Narragansett Electric Company for thirty eight years, retiring in 1987. He was also an associate of the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home for many years.He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Quincy, one of the first ships to arrive at the invasion of Normandy during World War II. Bud recently traveled to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial as part of the Veterans Honor Flight Program.His happiest days were those spent in the company of his family. In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his four children: Ann Marie Connolly and her husband, Dick; Edward A. Reilly and his wife Kathy: Helen (Tender) Boyle and her husband Tom, and Kevin G. Reilly and his wife Maryann. He leaves his ten adoring grandchildren; Sean Boyle, Richard Connolly and his wife Allison, Kathryn Magaldi and her husband Tom; Ryan Connolly and his fiancAC. Kerryn Doherty, Edward Boyle, Kevin Connolly, Edward, Meaghan, Erin and Caitlin Reilly. He also leaves four great-grandchildren, Thomas and Reilly Magaldi and Finn and Linley Connolly.A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 19 at 10:00 am, in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial with military honors, will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket to which relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 18 from 3:00-7:00 pm in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Augustine Guardian Angel Fund/Edward A.
