Edward F. "Ted" Donnelly Jr, 76 of Providence, and Harbor Island, Narragansett, passed away on May 10 at Fatima Hospital, North Providence after an illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia Ann "Pam" (McLaughlin) Donnelly for 41 years prior to her death in 2009.
Born in Providence, he was the son of late Edward F. Donnelly, Sr. and Helen F. (Droney) Donnelly.
Ted was educated at Blessed Sacrament School, LaSalle Academy and Providence College. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum before starting a career in the Operations Department of Citizens Bank that spanned 35 years with his retirement in 2005 as an Assistant Vice President. During his time at Citizens Bank, he earned a degree in Bank Administration from the University of Wisconsin.
Ted was a fond alumnus of Providence College being a season ticket holder to both the Men's Basketball and Men's Hockey programs and being a member of the Mal Brown Club, becoming the President of the club. Ted was also fond of his Irish ancestry being a member of the Ceilidhe Club of RI and Ireland's 32 Society as well as taking over a dozen trips to the Emerald Isle with his wife, family and friends. Ted was passionate about the beach as he summered in Bonnet Shores with his parents and brothers and sisters in his youth, purchased a home on Harbor Island to teach his young family to share his passion and in his retirement he wintered in Tavernier, Florida "to stay warm". His circle of friends was large and he enjoyed spending time with them at parties, playing golf, cards, or going out to eat to catch up with them.
He is survived by his son Edward F. "Ted" Donnelly III, his son Sean M. Donnelly and his wife Liz, his daughter Meredith P. Donnelly and her wife Jenn. He was predeceased by a son and a daughter Patricia H. "Tricia" Donnelly. Ted is survived by his sisters Ellen M. Donnelly SU, Sally Donnelly and Mary P Donnelly and his brothers Thomas Donnelly, James Donnelly, Paul Donnelly, Robert Donnelly and Kevin Donnelly. Ted is survived by his grandchildren Shannon P. Donnelly, Molly Kate Donnelly, Henry Donnelly and George Donnelly.
The funeral will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 8:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm.
