He was born on September 30, 1949 to Elma (Dague) and Charles Ridgely in Wheeling, West Virginia where he grew up with his brother Paul.
Charlie grew up enjoying swimming, he had fond memories of being a lifeguard at Olgebay Park and Wheeling Park where he worked for several summers. He also enjoyed spending summers in Michigan with his family. He swam competitively at West Liberty State College. Upon graduation he moved to Rhode Island and initially settled on the East Side of Providence which he loved.
Charlie’s career began at Technic in Cranston, RI where he dealt with gold and fine metals. He then transitioned into the finance industry and worked at Merrill Lynch in Providence for most of his career. In his later years he became involved in commercial real estate and development, he truly enjoyed helping to develop condo and commercial complexes in Rhode Island.
He loved traveling, especially to Europe, Italy was his favorite destination. He loved playing golf for many years, walking throughout the East Side of Providence, and spending time with his family.
Charlie leaves behind his significant other of 35 years, Claire Jubb, of North Providence; his daughter Lauren Swanson and her fiance Jackson Parmenter, grandchildren Fletcher (13) and Evelyn (10) Swanson of East Greenwich, RI; his son Ryan Ridgely and daughter-in-law Christine Griffin of Indiana; and his brother Paul Ridgely of Wheeling, WV.
Charlie is remembered for his gentle, logical and calming demeanor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was taken too soon.
