

North Providence Charles W. Gionis, 64, died Friday morning, March 10, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Penny (Derziotis) Gionis for the past thirty-nine years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John P. and Yvette M. (Paquin) Gionis. Charles retired last year as owner of Johnston Pizza for 32 years to spend more time with his family. He also loved the beach, cooking, gardening and his dogs. Previous to that, he was a former owner, along with his family, of the Governor Dyer Restaurant in Providence, a well known establishment. In addition to his wife Penny, he leaves two sons, Nickolas C. Gionis and his wife Kendra and William J. Gionis; two brothers, William J. Gionis and John S. Gionis; and two loving grandchildren, Karinda R. and Nickolas J. Gionis. He was a brother of the late Ernest P. Gionis. The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Service at 10:00 am in the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be in the North Burial Ground, Providence. Visiting hours Thursday, 5:00 - 8:00 pm.
