Charles P. Fitzgerald, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and loving companion of Joyce Gervais for the past ten years, passed away on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at the age of 83. Born in Providence, RI, Charles was the son of the late John P. and Mary (Mulvey) Fitzgerald.
A lifelong resident of Providence, Charles graduated from Providence College with a degree in business management. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Army Intelligence. Charles’ life work was in health services starting at Roger Williams General Hospital’s Blood Bank and then as a donor recruiter for Haricomp, which became the Rhode Island Blood Center, where he ultimately retired after 31 years. He was dedicated to helping his community and advocated for gifted education in Providence.
Charles and the late Marianne F. (Marcello) Fitzgerald were married for 43 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather, leaving three sons, Garrett and his wife Donna, Matthew and his wife Christine, and Ian and his wife Jessica, and grandchildren Ael, Minwin (Erin), John, Claire, Colin, and Maria. He was the brother of J. Michael Fitzgerald, Paul Fitzgerald, Sheila Maloney, and the late Patrick Fitzgerald, Deborah Connell, and Mary JoAnn McGannon.
The funeral will be held Wednesday May 10th, at 9:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Saint Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
