She was the beloved wife of Vico Scarpelli.
Born in Providence, daughter of the late George and Crescenza (Frattarelli) Antonucci.
Devoted mother to; Steven A. Scarpelli (Debra), Debora S. Gildea (Joseph), Lisa M. Lombardi (James), and Louis L. Scarpelli (Alison).
Cherished grandmother of; Stephanie, Steven Jr., Amanda (Gildea) Atkins (Joey), Olivia (Gildea) Jones (Derek), Vanessa, James (Meg), and Gabriela.
Cherished great-grandmother; Steven III, Avery, Savannah, Gian and Jack.
Sister of, Alfred Antonucci (Barbara) and the late, Josephine Tassoni, Irene, Anthony, and Valentine Antonucci. She leaves her sister in-law, Lucille Antonucci.
In 1959, Barbara married the love of her life, Vico. Vico was everything to her and those that knew them had the gift of witnessing an extraordinary kind of love. Together they created a beautiful family that was the center of their world. Barbara cherished time with her family, always finding joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara’s life was a testament to compassion and service to others. After a lifetime of nurturing those around her, Barbara embraced retirement as an opportunity to pursue her passion for caregiving. She earned her CNA license and dedicated her later years to providing care for the elderly. Barbara volunteered tirelessly at St. Edward’s Food Pantry alongside Vico, making a significant impact in the community for many years. As a devoted member of St. Anthony's Parish, she taught CCD, helped organize the St. Anthony’s Feast, and served on the board of the local Sons of Italy, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication.
An adventurous spirit, she traveled the world with Vico, creating cherished memories. Her warmth, devotion, unwavering love, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4 – 7 pm. Funeral Tuesday at 10 am from the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence.
Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
