Providence Alice R. Cheney, 91, of Randall Street, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late William J. Cheney. Born in West Wareham, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Fulgencia (Dos Reis) Baptiste. Alice worked for the U.S. Rubber / Uniroyal Company for over twenty years before retiring. She then went on to volunteer at Saint Anthony's House, Providence for many years.She was a communicant of Holy Name Church, a member of Daughters of Isabella, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, and reading. Alice leaves a sister, Dorothy Matos; three grandchildren, Kristen Cheney, Nicole Cheney and Julian Cheney, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Alysia and Shyla Cheney; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Cheney. She was predeceased by her son, Julian J. Cheney, Sr., her sister, Mary C. Fox, and two brothers, August Baptiste and Theodore Baptiste.The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Name Church, 99 Camp Street, Providence. Committal Prayers will be in Swan Point Cemetery Chapel. Visiting hours Thursday, 5 - 8 pm.
