Alessandro “Al” Rossi, 75, of Lynde Street, a retired Providence Police Captain, died peacefully Monday, March 16, 2015, at home. He was the husband of Wanda M. (Grace) Rossi. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alessandro and Dora (Tudone) Rossi. Al served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps, and was a member of the VFW, Post 172, Providence. Soon after his discharge from the Marine Corps, Al was appointed to the Providence Police Department, where he served with honor for thirty years. During his career, he worker in patrol, traffic, detectives, licenses and prosecution, received several department commendations, and retired with the rank of Captain in May, 1992. He was a member of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 3, and the Retired Providence Police and Firefighters Association. He was also a past president of the Italo-American Club of Rhode Island. Beside his wife Wanda, he leaves three sons, Alexander Rossi, (Ret PPD), Gian-Carlo Rossi and Nicholas Rossi; a daughter, Nancy Gugliemorti; and three grandchildren, Antonia and Dante Gugliemorti and Jason Rossi. He was a brother of the late Jo An Rossi. The funeral will be held Friday, at 7:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
