My sincerest condolences to all my Martineau cousins and all of your families.  We will NEVER forget the laughter Uncle Al and Auntie Jo provided us.  Two wonderful souls now will be united in heaven, and THAT will make us ALL continue to smile for years to come! We will miss them both dearly.

Dear Cousins, I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Al.  I always had so much fun with him at our reunions, and I can't imagine Aunt Jo and Uncle Al not being there anymore. Our reunions will never be the same. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to all the services, as I live so far away.  This must be so hard for all of you to lose both parents. What can be said, about Albert/dad/uncle Al/grandpa/etc.?

Albert was born into a challenging childhood, during a very challenging time.  He was thrust into a World War before finishing high school, but he was also lucky enough to marry a living angel.  
*
Al was blessed with some seriously animated children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.  He was a hard worker who never got sick and never missed work (even after the occasional long night of carrying-on).   
*
Mr. Martineau cleaned ‘the shop' on Saturdays – in order to make enough money to afford things like brand-new school-shoes (for his kids).
*
Uncle Al was the party jokester.  He was the grown-up kid, with a sparkle in his eye and the wit to make you chuckle-along in harmony.  If you think that the term ‘roar' is associated with a lion, you'd have to admit that ‘Leo' is an appropriate sun-sign for the man with the booming voice.
*
Our father wasn't perfect, and thank God for that.  Instead, he played the game for all that it was worth, and he experienced the bumps and bruises that come along with putting yourself out there in this, a paradoxical Universe.
*
Brother Al was more than a father, he was a friend.  He was a fishing buddy, a cheerleader, a rabble-rouser, and a strict disciplinarian.  He could bark and bite, but he could (just as quickly) break into a smile that would let you know that the bark/bite was nothing more than a short-term explosion.
*
Albert Martineau could be very forgiving.  Albert Martineau could be very supportive of his church.  Albert Martineau could see beyond race, gender, ethnicity and ideology, especially when it mattered most.  Albert Martineau was a vibrant human being.
*
Al (and Jo) raised seven kids… without a rule book, without clear guidelines, but with integrity and with Love.  Love shows itself in a myriad of ways, and we (off-spring-ings) were like honored guests at a Love-buffet.
*
Albert (and his lovely Josephine) made their transitions in a time that is still challenging, a time when many of us question our own futures.  They lived their final days, navigating a confusing medical system that often emphasizes treatment and procedure – at the expense of true, human healing.   
*
Al left this planet on his own terms: refusing to be poked, prodded and demoralized by the system.
*
Hopefully, Josephine (and her Albert) are dancing together right now, smiling down upon those of us who are temporarily left behind.  
*
We feel loss – which is the very proof that we have experienced the kind of Love that makes saying ‘goodbye' so much more difficult.  
*
That kind of Love is a good thing.
*
The Martineau-Femino clan will never say ‘goodbye'.  We will remember (with smiles) the many, many, many over-the-top, hilarious moments that were born out of a synergy of passion... a commitment to family… and an energy of Love.

My deepest condolences to my family.  I am sorry for your loss.  I will miss Uncle Albert.  He was a one of a kind uncle.  We had a lot of laughs and craziness.  I will miss his famous meatballs and sauce that he would make for the 4th of July cookouts at Audrey's house.  Our families grew up with a lot of history and good times that will never be forgotten.
