Born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Morris and Sue (Kaminsky) Banks, he had lived in upstate New York for many years, spending a few years in Virginia and West Virginia before moving to Rhode Island two years ago.
A graduate of Philadelphia’s Central High School, Class of 1963, he earned a full scholarship to Temple University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1967. Fred worked at IBM, where he held many positions, beginning his career as a junior programmer, then a first line technical manager and eventually he was a long term strategist, before retiring after twenty six years with the company. He continued to work for several other tech companies for many years following retirement. Fred enjoyed helping his wife Meredith with her baking and weaving businesses. He designed her websites and helped with the business aspects, which allowed Meredith to focus on the creative side of things.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Amy Banks, and her companion Allin LeBeau of Johnston; three sisters Elaine, Frannie and Pam and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral and burial will be private.
