WOLD, AARON, 91, passed peacefully in his home on October 3, 2018. He was born and educated in Brooklyn, NY, earning his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1952. In 1963 he joined the faculty of Brown University and was the Vernon Krieble Chaired Professor of Chemistry until his retirement in 1992. He has written two books and published over 300 papers in the field of solid state chemistry.
For over 60 years Aaron Wold was an avid orchid collector and raised over 550 rare orchids in his greenhouse. He was a long time member of the RI Orchid Society and always happy to share his knowledge of orchids with others. When he retired from teaching, he turned to his love of music and volunteered for the Jewish Eldercare of Rhode Island. For many years he created music programs each week and traveled to nursing and retirement homes throughout RI, playing music for the residents.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Dr. Patricia Wold, his three children Dr. Marshall Wold, Leo Wold, Esq., and Miriam Wold, as well as four grandchildren: Ethan Wold, Maya Wold, David Finstein, and Aaron Wold.
Funeral service will be held Monday October 8th at 2 PM at Temple Beth El, 70 Orchard Ave, Providence RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Jewish Family Service of RI, 1165 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904 or to the Kosher Food Pantry, 100 Niantic Ave, Providence, RI 02907. Prayers will be held at his late residence on October 8th at 4:30 PM with Shiva to follow.
