PRINCETON-Nancy Lee Kissinger Burks, 77, of Princeton, formerly of Iaeger, WV, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Princeton Community Hospital after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born September 13, 1937 in Iaeger to the late Thomas and Bess Kissinger.
After graduating from Iaeger High School in 1955, she married her devoted husband and high school sweetheart, Allen Burks, on June 28, 1955. Nancy received her BS Degree in Elementary Education from Concord College (University) and began her teaching career in a two room school in Lex, WV alongside her mother. The majority of her 17 years teaching were spent in Iaeger Elementary School, where she was known for her kindness and thoughtfulness. She worked diligently to create a nurturing and captivating learning environment, making her a “favorite teacher” to many students, including her two daughters and future sons-in-law.
Embodying the true spirit of a Christian Servant, Nancy devoted her life to caring for her family and others. With a heart full of love and compassion, she always thought of others before herself and strove to instill this trait into her beloved grandchildren. She ended her teaching career early in order to care for her parents and brother, who has Down Syndrome.
Until poor health prevented her attendance, Nancy was a faithful Member of the Iaeger United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She spent many hours preparing Bible lessons and crafts for her grandchildren and took great pleasure in teaching them about God’s love and plan for salvation.
Most recently Nancy’s most treasured moments spent cooking for and visiting with her great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, delicious dinners, and holiday celebrations. She was truly an inspiration and role model for her daughters, and was the unifying force of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Nellie Burks and beloved grandson, Jared Mullins.
Left to cherish her memories are her dedicated husband, Allen Burks; a special brother, Tommy Kissinger, both of the home; two daughters, Vicki Mullins and husband, Chester and Chris Lester and husband, Ricky all of Iaeger; four grandchildren, Eric Dotson and wife, Cynthia of Bluefield, WV, Kara Dell’Orso and husband, Chris of Bluff City, TN, Tara Lester and fiancé, Jarrod Pairgin of Princeton, and Joey Dotson and wife, Beth of Kegley, WV; five great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Caleb and Bristol Dotson, Gracie, Weston, and Noah Dell’Orso; and Duke Dotson; special sister-in-law, Dorothy Sinicrope and many dear friends and extended family, and her pet “grandson”, Bentley who will miss lying on the bed with his Nanny.
