It is with heavy hearts our family announces the peaceful passing of Paul on the morning of July 11, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones and his fur buddies, Max and Jasper, who were his constant companions during the past few years. He will remain forever in our hearts and cherished memories forever.
Paul was born on November 16,1944 in Ratibor, Germany and was the youngest of 18 children born to Paul and Anna Sladeczek. He immigrated to Canada when he was 9 years of age with his family and they settled in Oshawa, Ontario where he completed his school years. He entered the trades and spent most of his career as a millwright and steel fabricator. He retired as Branch Manager for Canada Culvert in Prince George.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Wendy, of 30 years who was always by his side; his children Paula, Chantelle, Ryan (Aimee), Matthew (Rachel), Joel (Lauren), and Jenelle (Scott). He was a beloved Opa to his grandchildren Meadow, Samantha, Tori, Maci, Finley, Bronagh, Jessica, Jacob and Jerrica; great-grandchildren Josh and Tayla who were all his pride and joy.
Paul loved being surrounded by his family and friends and enjoyed cooking for them all--especially being king of the BBQ grill. During his teens, Paul developed a passion for cars-collecting/fixing and eventually racing locally and qualified for trials down in Florida. He avidly followed NASCAR racing for the rest of his life--cheering on all his favorite drivers who drove Ford cars. During NASCAR season, the TV was always tuned to the NASCAR races which was the highlight of his year. In his later years Paul collected old computers and spent many years repairing/upgrading them under his company “Anyage Computers”. His favorite pastime in his younger years was fishing and telling stories of the one that got away. He was an avid gardener and took pride on building/fixing things around the home.
During the past 25 years, Paul overcame many health issues after numerous heart attacks/various heart related issues which eventually led to a pacemaker and then kidney failure which he always rallied back from until the final liver cancer diagnosis in May of 2024. We are all grateful for all the extra years we had with him.
In lieu of flowers if you wish, please make a donation to the PG Hospice Palliative Care Society who were the angels that supported our family throughout his final weeks and days. He is at peace now, rest easy Paul.
