It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our brother, John Regier, friend to many, on June 18, 2024, at the age of 63. His family surrounded him in Prince George, British Columbia, while he passed peacefully into Jesus' presence, after a long struggle with heart disease.
John was born on March 6, 1961, in Vanderhoof, BC and lived there for most of his life. He was predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Helen Regier and sister Susan.
He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his siblings Mary Braun, Jake Regier, Peter Regier, Kathy (Ray) Robertson, Isaac (Helen) Regier and Elizabeth (Andrew) Frank. His many nieces and nephews loved his quiet but gentle presence.
John was an adventurous young man and he travelled, often hitchhiking, to see family in BC and Alberta. He also spent time working as a farmhand in the Vanderhoof area.
In 2018, John moved into Gateway Lodge; an assisted living residence in Prince George. He often said, "It was the best move I've ever made."
John's adventurous spirit led him to participate in a University of Northern British Columbia project that joined university students and seniors together in a intergenerational community at Gateway Lodge. He loved the relationships he built with the students living alongside him; engaging in thoughtful discussion and staying connected with the students even after they left.
John also became involved with a gardening program at Gateway Lodge and helped grow fresh vegetables and herbs for the kitchen to include in meals for the other residents. He loved his garden and was proud of his gardening skills.
His sharp sense of humor would always include contagious laughter that would rumble with joy.
The family wants to thank the staff at Gateway Lodge for their care and for being a second family for John over the past six years.
Please join us in Celebrating John’s Life on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Gateway Lodge Assisted Living, 1462 20th Avenue, Prince George, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society.
