After a very sudden decline in his health, Darrell Lewis Smith passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family on Thursday, August 15th. His loss was unexpected and his family is profoundly saddened.
Darrell was born in Calgary in 1961; he spent his younger years in Richmond before the Smith family made Peachland their home in the late 1970’s. The next few decades would find him throughout the Okanagan and Kootenay’s before settling his young family in Prince George in 1999.
Darrell was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Winifred (Wava) Smith and his sisters Teresa and Cindy.
He is survived and forever remembered by his children: Kailey, Jessica and Trevor Smith, his grandchildren: Lilly, Eden, Amelia, Elias, Darcy and Axel; his twin brother Darren and his sister Tracey; nieces, nephews, in-laws and outlaws…he loved us all!
“Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it.” (Stevie Wonder). Darrell, your songs will continue to reverberate through our hearts even though you are no longer with us. Music is the way your memories will sing to us across time and space.
While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. In honor of his final wishes, Darrell’s remains will be taken back to Peachland for the July long weekend of June 28 – July 1, 2025. All who are able are invited to gather in his memory.
“Oh the last goodbye’s the hardest one to say, this is where the cowboy rides away.” (George Strait).
