It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Christopher Geoffrey Evans. He took his last breath on February 18, 2022, just shy of his 77th birthday. If asked his age, he would often answer with the question: “Who wants to know?”. This perhaps, is one of Chris’s most memorable phrases. Although he was a private man, he was also a light hearted person who enjoyed making others laugh.
Chris was born in England on February 27, 1945 but moved to Surrey, BC as a young child and became a Canadian Citizen shortly thereafter. He served in the Royal Canadian Army in CFB Shilo, Manitoba and was stationed in Germany at CFB Baden-Soellingen during the height of the Cold War. On his return to Canada, he met and later married the love of his life, Judy (Fell). They lived and worked in Surrey, Dawson Creek and Quesnel before finally becoming long-time residents of Prince George, where they raised their two children, Garth and Nancy.
Chris's knack for things mechanical drew him to the trucking industry as a Heavy Duty Parts Professional for the majority of his working life. His commitment to service for his customers made him very popular among the countless folks he would serve through evening and weekend callouts, making sure they'd be running for the following morning. He returned to college in his mid-30’s and also worked as a Process Server for the City of Prince George. During this time he received recognition from the Government for his contributions helping others to become successfully employed.
Chris enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and camping with family and friends. In his later years, he was often found outside in his yard tending to his grass and feeding his loyal crows. Many would agree Chris’s true passion was cars. It is a wonder that he did not wash the paint right off his vehicles as he was fanatical about keeping them maintained and clean. He enjoyed attending the racetrack and car shows locally and throughout BC. He was also a very proud father and took every opportunity that presented itself to brag of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
After 38 years of marriage, the death of his wife Judy in 2007 left Chris heartbroken and it took him some time to accept the challenge of facing the future. He found love and happiness again and will be greatly missed by his common-law spouse Rosetta Lewis. His smile, generosity and sense of humor always brought joy to others. No matter where you saw him, he was eager to stop and talk, wave or honk as he drove by. Nobody was a stranger to Chris.
Chris was loved and valued as a spouse, father, grandfather, brother, son, neighbor and friend. He is survived by Rosetta Lewis, sister Ingrid Evans, son Garth Evans, daughter Nancy (Simon) Loranger and grandchildren Gray and Sadie. He was predeceased by his birth mother Barbara Googal, parents Jeffery and Eleanor Evans, wife Judy Evans, sister Carol Evans, and common-law partner Marlene Dryden. He will be loved and greatly missed by his extended Evans, Parker and Eyles families.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Chris’s name to:
