Alice Merle Cendese passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Jubilee Lodge in Prince George, BC at the age of 92. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to the late Mario Cendese and a loving mother to Kathy (Kelly) Moynihan and Mary (Mansour Bajestani) Cenedese; grandmother to Jaci (Rhys) Mersereau, Nicki Moynihan, Sandi (Matt) Gohn, and Emma Bajestani; great-grandmother to Gillian, Cooper, and Ethan Mersereau; dear sister-in-law to Louise (Duilio) Nonni and Ivan Cendese. Alice was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Born December 16, 1929, in Bowmanville, ON, Alice was the seventh and youngest child of the late Mary Jane (née Francis) and Lorne Simpson. As a young woman, Alice was a housekeeper and nanny in Niagara Falls, ON, before working at the Oneida Silversmith factory. Later, Alice went on to work for years in the grocery industry, where she rose to the management level before retiring in 1984. Alice enjoyed almost four decades of retirement, first living in Niagara Falls and spending many winters in Arizona with Mario. Then, Alice transitioned to live with Mary and her family as they moved throughout Ontario and to British Columbia, to their current home in Prince George.
An inquisitive, lifelong learner, Alice was known for her quick wit and kindness. She loved visiting with friends and family and was treasured by the people in her life. Alice enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking, as well as mentoring immigrant students with their English proficiency. Most notably, Alice was an avid reader and inspired many in her life to discover the joy of reading, too. Alice will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to Mario and her parents, Alice is predeceased by her siblings Marion (Mervin) Allen, Don Simpson, Jim (Gladys) Simpson, Maude (Dave) Arbuckle, Rod (Pat) Simpson, and Betty (Don) Ferguson / (Bill) Taylor.
This spring, a celebration of Alice’s life will be held in the Niagara area for family and friends on June 3. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Cancer Society or the Red Cross. Alice’s family would also like to thank Prince George Hospital for their kindness and care during her time there.
