Roy Oliver Wilson passed away peacefully in Birmingham on June 24. He was born in Butler County, Alabama on April 2, 1926 and grew up on his family’s farm in Chapman, Alabama. His father, Zachary, was known for his innovative farming techniques, for which he received recognition. Wilson had seven other siblings, four sisters and three brothers. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army on a cargo transport ship in the Pacific Theater. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by Alabama Power Company. Wilson began as a Groundman in Greenville, Alabama then advanced to the role of Lineman in Montgomery. He and his family moved to Prattville in 1965, where the Company assigned him to be the first Foreman of a new line crew established in the city. He retired in 1986, after 35 years of employment with the company, 21 of those years spent in Prattville. He is remembered by many as one of the volunteers at Prattville Medical Park. For over 10 years, he greeted persons and assisted them as they entered the building. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Prattville. He previously served as a deacon, and, until he became unable, was a faithful member of his Sunday School class. He loved being a helper, participating in church mission trips and service projects.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Del); a daughter-in-law, Donna Wilson; four grandchildren, Ryan Wilson (Susan), Derek Wilson, Matthew Wilson (Erica), Anna Kate Wilson Stephenson (Zeke); and six great-grandchildren: Bailey Wilson, Ren Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Seth Wilson, Emory Wilson, and Harper Wilson. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by Bama Lee Wilson, his wife of 69 years, and his first-born son, Ronnie.
A Graveside Service will be at 2:00pm in Sunrise Memorial Park, Greenville, AL. Dr. Travis Coleman will officiate and will include Military Honors.
