Johnny was born November 24, 1970 and passed away on June 19, 2024, due to cirrhosis of the liver from alcoholism and drug use. Staying silent would mean that Johnny’s death was in vain, but if one person can be saved by reading this, we will continue to share his story. We all know too well that there are countless people suffering from addiction or who have loved ones suffering from it. When people see those with an addiction, they only see the addiction and stop seeing the person.
Johnny had a huge smile and a big laugh. He always helped those he could, no matter how little he had. Johnny often had periods of sobriety and would thrive during these times. He was a talented carpenter and loved working with wood. From a young age he worked and learned from uncles and acquired the skills, along with being a mechanic which led to his love of a cold drink and county music. Johnny turned to alcohol and drugs at a young age as an escape and to block any negatives, any trauma, or hurt in his life. The addiction affected all aspects of his life. As darkness continued to compound itself and each unspeakable thing happened to him or that he did, it increased his pain and shame. The addiction stalked Johnny and stole him piece by piece. Unfortunately, this disease would not let him go until he was gone.
He so loved his Mamaw and Pawpaw, his adopted and biological parents, and the rest of his family. He had longed for answers that he finally got this year. He was happy being around family, just eating, talking, and socializing. He would always tell you he loved you before leaving or ending a phone call. He was thankful to all those who helped him and in the end he had found God. We find comfort in knowing Johnny had found God and that he was with family when he passed away. Johnny leaves behind his brother, sisters, other family members, girlfriend and friends.
A Celebration of Life is being planned by the family, details will be shared at a later time.
If you yourself are struggling from addiction, know that every breath is a fresh start. Know that so many have lost loved ones to this disease that are praying for you. It is never too late to make a change. If you know someone who is struggling, always remember to be kind and treat them with compassion.
