John Bruce Fox (Bruce), of Deatsville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 88. Bruce was born July 1, 1935 in Johnstown, PA. He later moved with his family to Hollidaysburg, PA, and lived there until graduating from high school in 1953. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Lynne, his daughter Adrienne Fox, stepson Scott Hill, stepdaughter Debbie Butrica (Bill), granddaughters Jennifer Butrica (Brian), Jess Butrica (Lisa), Kim Wills (Tom) and Lauren Skalecki (Alex), along with great grandchildren Dylun, Brodie, Addison, Sheamus and Keegan.
After high school, Bruce served his country as a soldier in the United States Army, including a tour in Germany and Korea. Following his Army service, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Slippery Rock College and later a Master’s Degree from Indiana University. Bruce spent over 20 years as public school teacher. Following retirement from the school system, he became a licensed auctioneer. He spent 25 years in that profession while he also owned and operated a family moving business. Bruce and Lynne lived in South Carolina and Florida before settling down in Deatsville. Bruce spent the last year of his life faithfully serving his church, Deatsville Baptist, as an ordained deacon. A memorial service will be held in his honor at the church on Wednesday, May 22 at 5 pm,184 Church St. Deatsville, Al 36022.
