Helen Baker Thornton, 96 of Prattville, passed away Thursday November 10, 2016. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday November 17th at the Prattville First Baptist Church followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary with Dr. Travis Coleman and the Reverend Dave Burns officiating.
Mrs. Thornton was born January 19, 1920 in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Hartselle Baker and Mary Carmichael Baker. She was a graduate of Lanier High School and was a retired accountant with the State of Alabama after many years of dedicated service. After retirement she served as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Baptist Hospital South. She also served as a longtime clerk and Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church. She will always be remembered for her kindness willingness to help anyone in need.
Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, J. Leon Thornton and is survived by a son and daughter in law, Michael and Mary Ruth Thornton of Prattville; a daughter, Suzanne Cockrell of Prattville; four grandchildren, Steve Thornton and his wife Jeanine, Scott Thornton and his wife Jady, Blaine Cockrell and his wife Meghan, Evan Cockrell, five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other close family members.
