Wood, E. Rick, 71, a resident of Millbrook, Alabama passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident Thursday, September 3, 2020. Mr. Wood was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He was born in Selma, Alabama on July 9, 1949.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eric DeRamus Wood, and his parents, Lucille and Philip Wood. He is survived by the love of his life for over 50 years, Sheila DeRamus Wood and his children, Ryan (Jessica) Wood, Merry Katherine (Frank) Hysmith, Rebecca (Bryan) Pouncey and grandchildren, Jason, Austin, Lane, Lauren, Caden, Cara, Jackson, Ella, Bailey, Eric and Carleigh; brother Robin (Nancy) Wood and numerous extended family and friends.
Mr. Wood graduated from Hicks Memorial High School in Autaugaville, Alabama in 1967. During his junior year he began working with Southern Bell under the co-op program. After graduation he continued his career with the Bell Telephone Company and retired with 30 years of service in 1996. He was a devoted Christian and member of Millbrook First United Methodist Church. Mr. Wood thoroughly enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the produce with his family and friends. He loved cooking, fishing and camping during his free time when he was not volunteering to help others. In recent years, he spent a lot of his time volunteering with the American Legion, Post 122 in Prattville, Alabama.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jerry May officiating. Memorials may be sent to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in memory of Rick Wood, 560 County Road One South, Selma, AL 36703 or Autauga Creek Improvement Committee, in memory of Rick Wood, 1214 Kingston Garden Road, Prattville, Alabama 36067.
