Mr. Bobby Allen Chambliss Sr. of Prattville, Alabama, was welcomed into heaven's gates on the morning of January 6th at the age of 83. He was living at home in Prattville, AL with his wife, Melanie. Bobby was born May 26, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama. He started his football career at a young age following in the footsteps of his older brother, Byron, who coached Bobby during his high school years. Bobby was selected to the 1955 All-State High School Football Team. After high school, Bobby joined the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, Bobby returned to Tuscaloosa where he completed his Business degree at the University of Alabama. He raised his family in Tuscaloosa and also later in Jackson, MS. Bobby formed a successful career in insurance and also spent time volunteering in the prison ministry. Bobby returned to his hometown of Prattville when he married Melanie Walthall of Prattville in 2002. Bobby was a faithful Christian throughout his life and a member of the First Baptist Church of Prattville for the last 20 years. He was a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club in Jackson and in Prattville. Bobby enjoyed spending time outdoors including fishing and hunting, Alabama football, dogs, the beach with Melanie and especially spending time with his family.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Jessie Allen Chambliss, his mother, Irene Scott Chambliss, his brothers Byron Scott Chambliss, Jack Lee Chambliss, and Melanie’s son, Everett Tedford Taylor Jr.
He is survived by his wife Melanie Walthall Chambliss and four children: Michael Chambliss (Deborah), Scott Chambliss (Marsha), Caroline Chambliss and Bobby Chambliss. His eight surviving grandchildren include: Alex Chambliss, Zach Chambliss (Jordan), Meghan Chambliss Nazario (Aaron), Jack Chambliss, Mary Catherine Chambliss, Mac Chambliss, Jacob Chambliss, Carly Chambliss and two great grandchildren: Eli Chambliss and Gemma Chambliss. He is also survived by Melanie’s children and their families: Caroline Taylor Crawford (David), and Tracy Taylor Sproule (Gordon) and grandchildren: Melanie Crawford, Ben Crawford, Olivia Sproule, Catherine Crawford, Robert Sproule, Ford Taylor, and Pollard Taylor.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022, with visitation at 10:30 a.m. followed by the service at 11:30 a.m., First Baptist Church of Prattville (138 South Washington St. 36067), following with a graveside service at Oakhill Cemetery.
