Betty Harris passed away peacefully on February 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Mae Harris; son, Zachary Harris and first cousin, Larry Franklin. She is survived by her son, Demetris Harris (Prattville, AL), sister and brother in law, Edward and Barbara A. Sanders (Hoover, AL), Niece and nephew in law Charles and Natalie Jones (Adamsville, AL), Niece and nephew in law Eric and LaTasha Smith (Hoover, Al), Nephew and niece in law Edward and Claudette Childs, great nephews, Jaden Jones and Roy Stallworth Jr. 1st cousins Elder James Franklin (Janice Franklin wife) and Cornelius Franklin (Velma Franklin wife), Barbara (Seattle, WA), Dorothy (Perkasie, NY) and beloved 2nd and 3rd cousins and close friends.
Betty Jean Harris was born December 18, 1940 in Montgomery, AL to the parents of John and Annie Harris. They moved to Birmingham, AL at the age of four. She confessed to Christ as a child at Zion Hill Baptist Church. She moved to Detroit Michigan at the age of 22 to work for Chrysler Motors where she stayed there for 33 years until she retired. She moved back to Alabama after retirement in 2003. Betty Harris attended Wenonah High School, (Birmingham, AL), A.G. Gaston Business College, A.S. degree (Birmingham, AL), Wayne State University, (Detroit, MI) B.S degree. Worked at A. G. Gaston Drug Store, (Birmingham, AL}, retired from Chrysler as a computer programmer of 33 years, (Detroit, MI). UAW union member, (Detroit, MI), Served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher at St. Jude Catholic Church, (Montgomery, AL}, active member and advocate of NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) and exercise and art instructor at Elmcroft of Grayson Valley Senior Living (Birmingham, AL).
A celebration of life service for Ms. Harris will be Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel, Prattville, Al., with Clergy Bishop James Franklin officiating.
The family would like to thank Elmcroft of Grayson Valley nurses and staff for their special care and attention to our loved one, Ridout Funeral Home for their helping hand and comforting care, Bishop James Franklin for distant travel to deliver eulogy Natalie Davis and staff for taking care of Demetris and his travel needs Charles Jones for his special attention and always making time to help with the big projects Everyone whom traveled to attend the service and everyone whom called and prayed for our family.
