Stub was born in the Town of Italy, NY on September 16, 1918, the son of the late Carl and Lillian (Emerson) Wetmore. He was a graduate of the Franklin Academy in Prattsburgh and served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a self-employed milk hauler and worked for more than 30 years at the Prattsburgh Hardware Store. Stub also worked maintenance for the Town of Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery. Stub was a 60 year member of the Prattsburgh Fire Dept. and served as a past fire chief. He was also a member of the Francis J. Flaherty American Legion Post 1338 in Prattsburgh for 64 years and served as their Finance Officer for 41 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Doris L. (Smith) Wetmore on September 14, 2002.
Stub is survived by his children, Judy (Fred) Butts of Somersworth, NH, Sandy Wiedrick of Palmyra, NY, and Dusty Wetmore of Prattsburgh, NY; grandchildren, Candy (David) Hetzler, Steven (Carrie ) Bullock, Tina (Dan) Lamphier, Keri (Paul) Schlesing, Kyle (Amy) Wetmore, and Kasey Wetmore; and 13 great grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, November 15th at the Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home in Prattsburgh. A Fireman’s Service will be conducted by the Prattsburgh Fire Dept. at the conclusion of calling hours. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 16th at 11am with Rev. Kathy Dye officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Rural Cemetery in Prattsburgh.
