Mr. Vernon G. “Vern” Murray, age 66 of Watertown, NY and formerly of Potsdam, NY passed away on Saturday, April 6th at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 10 am at the Garner Funeral Service with Msgr. Robert Aucoin celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Beach Plains Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life for Vern at the Elk’s Lodge in Potsdam following the burial. Vern is survived by his wife of 47 years Mrs. Meribeth Murray; sons Vernon “Butch” (Richelle) Murray and Jeff (Cathy) Murray; daughter Amy (Dennis) Zehr; his brother George Murray; sisters Carolyn Jones, Carol Droppo; 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; his brothers Tony, Morris and Harold Murray and his sisters Mary McGregor and Patricia Pryce.
Mr. Vernon G. Murray was born on September 14, 1946 in Potsdam, NY to the late Vernon P. and Dorothy Caskinett Murray. He was a graduate of Potsdam schools. On September 18, 1965 he was married to Meribeth Captolia VanBrocklin in Norwood, NY. He then served in the United States Army from 1970-1971. After his honorable discharge he returned back to the North Country and he went to work at Bun’s Sunoco as a mechanic in Potsdam for a few years. He then went to work as a mechanic at Phil’s in Hannawa Falls, NY. Vern then was the owner and operator of “Vern’s Garage and Used Cars” in Colton for over 23 years. Vern retired in 2005 and that lasted about 2 weeks. He then went to work for Monroe Muffler in Potsdam, NY where he remained until becoming disabled in 2009.
Vern was a member of the St. Lawrence County Car Club and a member of the Motor Cycle Club of Potsdam. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He was an avid old car buff. He enjoyed going to the antique car shows. Online condolences can be sent @www.garnerfh.com.
