Sharon was born on August 11th, 1938, the daughter of the late Catherine “Peggy” and Vincent A. Caruso in Potsdam, NY. She graduated from Potsdam High School a member of the Class of 1956. On May 11th, 1957 she was married to James E. Mason at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY with Father Menard officiating. Shortly after she moved to Norfolk, VA while James was serving in the US Navy and worked for the Chesapeake and Potomach phone company. Upon her return to Potsdam, Sharon worked at NY Telephone, Barstow’s Furniture and the Watertown Daily Times. She retired from Verizon in 1992, from the Watertown office.
Sharon is survived by her husband James and four sons, James “Jamie” and his wife Shelley, Timothy and his wife Barbara, Jeffery and his wife Jennifer all of Potsdam. Jonathan and his wife Leigh of Massena. 11 grandchildren, Trevor, Whitney, AJ, Rachelle, Lyndsi, Ryan, Colbie, Lauren, Preston, Ayanna, and Carter. And 4 great grandchildren. Two brothers, Thomas Caruso and wife Kathy of Hannawa Falls, NY and Vincent Caruso and wife Cindy of Norwood, NY. A sister Nancy Convertini and husband Harry of Massena NY and a Sister-in-law Cathy Caruso of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her Parents and two brothers, James and Robert Caruso.
Sharon was a member of the Potsdam Elks, Border Line Quilters, Dessert Quilters, the NY Telephone Pioneers retirement group and the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Mary‘s Church.
The Family would like to thank the Staff of Maplewood Campus, her friends at Border Line quilters, and especially the staff of St. Lawrence Hospice for the excellent care and assistance in the brief time that Sharon was ill. Sharon also leaves a great circle of friends especially her childhood friends of over 70 years Cynthia Lapointe and Lois Ensby. The family also wishes to thank all our friends and family for their support and well wishes.
Friends and family may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Tuesday July 8th, 2-4 and 7-9. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church Potsdam on Wednesday July 9th at 10am with Monsignor Robert Aucoin and Father Garry Giroux officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery .
