passed away September 28, 2022 at home under the care of Hospice and family
members.
Bob was born March 9, 1938 in Gouverneur. He graduated from Gouverneur High
School in 1956. After graduation, he attended St. Lawrence University. While at SLU,
he participated in a 4 week citywide tour with the Laurentian choir, with one of the
stops being WABC Radio in NYC. In 1958 he enlisted in the U.S.Army as an engineer
and served in South Korea. While overseas, his company helped build a military base
along with an airfield. He completed his tour of duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was
very proud of his military service.
In 1960, he married Patricia Feistamel at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur.
They were married for nearly 60 years. Returning to Gouverneur in 1961, he joined the
family lumber and fuel oil business. After the death of his parents in 1968, he took over
the business. Later the fuel oil business was sold to Agway in 1978, and the lumber
business was sold in 1979. Bob was hired by Brown & Storie that same year as a
project manager and piping estimator. In 1995 he was hired by Burns Brothers
Contractors of Syracuse.Bob chose Potsdam as the location for their Northern
Division. He managed Burns Brothers in Potsdam until his retirement in 2012.
Bob belonged to the Gouverneur Country Club, the Elks Club, both in Gouverneur and
Potsdam, the Amvets in Parishville, the Spotted Deer hunting club in Harrisville along
with the 4F4B hunting club in Pierrepont. He loved playing cards, especially cribbage.
Bob enjoyed boating, hunting, 4-wheeling, golfing and both nordic and alpine skiing.
He was also a skilled carpenter. Bob remained active up until his death.
Bob didn"t mind Florida, where he is a board member of the Condo Association, but
preferred life on Allen Falls flow in Parishville.
Bob is survived by his sister, Sally Viele, Jamestown, NY, 5 sons; Robert Ben (Janette)
Sylvia Lake, Mark (Cindy) Gouverneur, Kris (Gretchen) Rancho Cucamonga, CA,
Patrick (Marybeth) St. Johnsbury, VT and Sean (Jennifer) Corning, NY and 9
grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Hospice, Bob’s neighbors and friends who helped during
his final days.
Donations may be made to St. Lawrence County Hospice or the Parishville Volunteer
