Mr. Gary G. Sebastian, age 72 of Parishville, NY passed away on Sunday, September 20th at his residence while under the care of his family and Hospice and Palliative of Care of St. Lawrence Valley. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, NY at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Howard Venette and Deacon Jim Snell (Gary's brother in law). Burial will follow the service with military honors at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Parishville, NY. Gary is survived by his wife Sandra Sebastian of Parishville, NY; son Chris (Kimberly) Sebastian of Buffalo, NY; daughter Karen (Harry) Yarter of Amherst, NH; sisters Marlene (Jackie) Planty of Potsdam, NY; and Bonnie (Jim) Turner of Rensselaer, NY; brothers Jack Sebastian of New York, NY; and Martin (Susan) Sebastian of Ogdensburg, NY; grandchildren Grace and Caroline Sebastian of Buffalo, NY and Madelyne and Timothy Bergeron and Mackenzie Yarter of Amherst, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was born on February 28, 1943 in Potsdam, NY to the late George Sebastian and Bertha Pytko. He attended schools in Utica and then he was a 1961 Graduate of Parishville Hopkinton Central School. Later he was drafted into the United States Army where he served from November of 1964 until December of 1966. He served 13 months overseas in Germany. On December 18, 1965 he was married to Sandra Snell at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hopkinton, NY with Rev. Albert Plante.
Gary worked in the laundry industry for over 52 years working for Abelove's Linen, Associated Textile, Sketchley Inc., National Linen and then from 1997 until present Robinson and Smith.
Gary was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. His biggest love was spending time with his family and also time at his winter home in Florida. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Parishville Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years and served on the Parishville Town Board for 26 years as a councilman. He was a charter member of the Parishville Amvets 265 Chapter. He was a lifetime member of the Flower Hill Club since 1960.
He will be forever remembered and sadly missed by all.
