A mass of christian burial for Mr. Edward J. Wixted will be held Friday, May 3rd at 10 am at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with Rev. Joseph Giroux celebrant. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Cemetery. Edward J. Wixted, age 96, passed away on January 15, 2024 at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center. Ed was born on July 2, 1927, to the late William and Adelaide Wixted.
Ed received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Queens College in New York City and a business administration degree from Pace University. He spent most of his adult life with his beloved wife, Bea, living and working in upstate New York, first in Gouverneur and then in Potsdam where he was named Comptroller and Assistant Treasurer at Clarkson University in 1968 before being named Treasurer in 1977.
In addition to being a loving husband and father, Ed enjoyed the companionship of many good friends both in the North Country and in Florida, especially on the golf course. He also found time to take on leadership positions in industry associations like the National Association of Accountants and Rotary. He was a devout Catholic and gave freely of his time and talents to St. Mary’s parish in Potsdam and to St. James in Gouverneur. Late in life he once remarked, “I guess I’ve lived a normal life…” To those of us who knew him and loved him, his “normal” life set an example we can only hope to live up to. The world has lost a good man.
Ed is survived by his children, Nora Hogue-Wixted (Lew Hogue), Bill (Betty) Wixted, Ed (Melanee) Wixted, and Dan (Susan) Wixted; his adored grandchildren, Bill Wixted, Tim Wixted, Ed (Katherine) Wixted III, Scott (Kyle) Wixted, David (Alexandra) Wixted, Ellen (Gunner) Brennan, Rowan Wixted, and Ashley (Gabrielle) Clover; his beloved great grandchildren, Teddy, Eddie IV, Annabelle, Arthur, Archie, Geri, and Meredith; his nieces and nephews who meant so much to him; and several dear friends, including Barbara Galligan.
Along with his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife, Bea, who will be with him now in heaven; his siblings, Bill and Tom Wixted; Bea’s brother and sisters; and many great friends whom he missed dearly these past few years.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at the Millview Assisted Living Facility for the love and attention they provided Ed over the last couple of years.
. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity and help make the world a better place. Condolences for the Wixted family can be shared @www.garnerfh.com.
